We’ve all been there – stuck in a meeting, only half-paying attention, wondering what the point is and then leaving wishing we could have taken those 30 minutes back and actually gotten some work done. Running an efficient meeting is an art and takes strong leadership and oral communication skills. As QA tester for CX, I lead daily stand-up meetings for our development team where we all fill each other in on the progress of our tasks for the week. Things move quickly for the design team at CX. Our development ninjas embrace Agile software development, and as the design lead, it’s my job to make sure design deliverables match pace with the delivery of new cloud storage features. To say this is a challenge would be an understatement.

To understand why this is a challenge, one has to know a little about software development history. Until about 10 years ago, software has been designed and developed using a waterfall approach. This approach is divided into deliberate phases and includes a lot of upfront planning. While plenty of good software has been developed using waterfall, it has a reputation for being a slow, cumbersome process that can lead to extended release dates and long lead times for new features.
