We are in the era of the viral video. YouTube views are currency. Attention spans are shorter than ever (sorry, reading.) Are you engaged in video marketing? Some are, but most are not.

Why aren’t you? From my experience, it’s lack of ability. While anyone can create a Facebook page or snap pictures with their phones, creating videos just has a higher barrier of entry. Even with all the video features our smartphones have today, it’s still really hard to make a really good video. While this video is great, a lot went into making it great. A script had to be written, the right cameras had to be used, someone had to direct it, and someone had to painstakingly edit it. The bottom line is, it probably took a lot of hours to make this 1:34 video. And this is the issue for most companies: Do they really want to invest hours into such a minimal (time-wise) output?

Well, if your video can get 9 million views, the answer is a very easy yes — but that’s not realistic for most people. Still, there are a few ways you can make unique videos for your business without having to go full Spielberg. Keep reading to find out how. (more…)

Most business owners have already tuned in to the fact that video marketing helps lend credibility and trustworthiness to your audience and can attract a huge global and local audience. For that reason, I’m not going to be talking about the benefits of video in this post. What I do want to turn our attention to is what makes a business video successful. In this post, we will be going over the five characteristics of a successful business video. So, without further a do, here they are. (more…)

job candidate social mediaGuest blog by Laura Burkey

Most people have a social media profile of some sort, whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or some variation. The over-sharing that occurs on these sites can be a big eye-opener for companies that are hiring. People simply don’t think before they type sometimes, which can reveal less-than-desirable details that potential employers eat up.

It’s always most cost-effective to hire the right person the first time. It might take more effort in the beginning to dig through the resumes to find that future employee, but ultimately, it’s well worth it.

Most hiring managers and human resources directors make it a habit to search these social media sites before calling potential employees for interviews or making an offer. Here are four things you can learn about a potential employee from perusing their social media sites. (more…)
